pbr Game Scout by pabstmodification of tciss(?)'s game scout script for GoalLineBlitz.com
A modified version of tciss's game scout script for GoalLineBlitz.com. Shows rushing and passing stats by direction and by down.
Yes, I fixed the bug that's shown in the screenshot.
If you have any issues, leave a comment. Check the javascript error log in your browser if you have one.
Keep in mind:
1) Rushing & Passing Plays that end in fumbles are NOT included in the totals.
2) Sack yardage is NOT included in running plays.
3) Columns full of 3's/4's/5's usually mean it got confused with a word somewhere. Leave a url to the game and I'll see what I can do.

To have the Scout box show up on quater break down PbP page:
| CTGuyton wrote: |
| Code: | | http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=*&mode=pbp&quarter=* |
just add that to the allowed pages and you can click the individual quarter pbp and it'll be there. half by half is a lil more difficult but I'm sure it can be done code wise |

What does the "Success Rate" mean?
Also, for this game: http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=53304&mode=pbp
there are a bunch of 4th down runs / passes shown on the scouting report where there were none in the actual game. Is this a glitch?

40% of the first down yardage on 1st down.
60% on second.
100% on third or fourth.
Got the stat originally from FootballOutsiders.com. It tends to show how well you're running the ball but doesn't get out of whack when the running back has 1 breakaway run and follows it up by getting stuffed 10 times.
|
Also for your problem above, reinstall the script from the above link. There was a bug from the first one that caused it. I checked your link and it doesn't show any 4th down plays for me.

Hmm.
I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it, but am still getting the 4th down tries.

That's interesting. I don't see tat at all. Do you have any other scripts running on that page? If you right click on the monkey icon, it will show you all the scripts running for that page.

I've tried adding
| Code: | | http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=*&mode=pbp&quarter=* |
It never seems to work for me. This is to have the scouting report in each quarter. The main play by play one works. I've tried uninstalling and installing the new script version and adding the included page. However still doesn't work.

http://glbscripts.myfreeforum.org/about42.html
I posted how to on middle of above thread. follow that instruction and see if it works.
If you have normal PbP working, it should work just by adding that line and clicking on any of the quarter link on PbP screen.

I've tried every way to input that into pbr. I know it sounds like I'm an idiot, because this should be a 2 second job. Cut and paste, hell I even typed the whole line of code in. Nothing. All pbp shows the scout reports, the quarters doesn't even show pbr running. I'm on Firefox 3

Keiichi,
I wrote a step by step on how to enable pbr Scout Box on the Quarter page.

If you follow those steps, it will work on FF3.
See if that helps.

The code that was pasted has "amp;" in it 2 times. That is what is messing someone up who copies and pastes from above.
| Code: | | http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=*&mode=pbp&quarter=* |
Right there is how it should look. Copy and paste that and it should work.

You are right! I didn't realize that when I copied and pasted. I made correction on the link.

I've added a new include line to the script so it should work on the full and quarter play by play screens without any changes.

Hoping someone can help me. Game scout isn't showing up at all. In the previous version, it would only show up in the quarters. This new version doesn't work in any of the screens...all or the quarters. I've tried moving the order of the script. I've tried to turn everything else off. I've tried to reinstall the script, uninstalling greasemonkey and installing it again, clearing out all the scripts and installing them fresh. The only thing I haven't done yet is reinstall firefox.
I've got the following scripts running:
Scouting Report Numbers
Highlight Attributes
pbr Game Scout
Replay

If it worked on the quarters but not the whole game, most likely one of the include lines is wrong. Make sure the following line is included in the list. | Code: | http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=*&mode=pbp
|
Also, browse to a full play-by-play page, right click the greasemonkey icon and make sure scout has a check next to it.
It's probably not the scripts you're running since I use the same ones. Check firefox's error console for any errors. If you see nothing, uninstall scout and install this version. This one will flood the console with messages on what it's doing. If the last message is "parse loop done", the script finished successfully and should be visible. I'll need to know the last couple messages if you get something else.

I swapped out the regular with the debug script and this popped up in my error console

Line: 1250
and it didn't look like there was anything on the play by play screen.

There was nothing on the pbp screen because the script crashed. I'm just about positive that the new parsing code isn't compatible with the 2.0 versions of firefox. You can upgrade to the 3.0 version of firefox, or get the old version of the script right here.

That page works for me. If there is nothing shown in the error console (ctrl-shift-J to open it), then the script can't be running. Make sure you have the correct included pages lines:

You can find the Firefox version number by clicking on the "About Firefox" link in Firefox's help menu. My guess is, you're using the 2.0 branch of Firefox rather than 3.0 (please, correct me if I'm wrong). The new versions of the script won't run in Firefox2 no matter how updated it is. To my knowledge, Firefox2 won't auto-update to Firefox3 just yet. I've uploaded the last version of the script which was known to run in Firefox2 right here. This version is missing a few things and still has a few bugs I never got around to fixing, but it shows most of what people want.

well, I'm an idiot...I just assumed that hitting update would update me with the latest version of firefox. Everything works fine now. Thanks. By the way, defending against the run generally is defined as outside or inside. In your script, you have right and "far right", would you qualify both as "outside"? Thanks again.

The script determines right and far right just by looking at the play description. Rush right is considered a right run while pitch right is considered far right. I don't know whether GLB considers outside runs to be outside the guard or outside the tackle. My guess is, outside the tackle is an outside run which means the far runs are definitely outside and the right runs are split.

I see that there is a break down by pass complete for long medium and short..is there anyway you can add for passes attempted as well?
You wouldn't have to put new column or row just change the text from 3 for 30 to 3 out of 4 for 30.

The problem is, the distance the pass was thrown is not in the play-by-play. To add passes attempted means I need to load the replay for every incomplete pass to find out where the pass was thrown. When you figure that it's 30 page loads minimum for every play-by-play every time you look at it, it's not a trivial amount of traffic. So, it's on the no-can-do list until I decide to write a Java application and get it over with.

Oh well...would have been a nice thing, but I can understand that.
One other thought...in all the places where you name players, how do I add in their positions. Especially on defense and receiving, it'd be advantageous to know that they were the lolb or the rolb making the play or even the TE making a catch instead of a WR.

That'll cost us one page load for each play-by-play so that's actually doable. Gimme a little time and I'll work on it. Though, breaking it down to LOLB/MLB/ROLB won't be possible. It would only be LB, TE, WR, etc.

Take a look at this... 4th quarter for the stars on the passing tab.
Says on my screen no passes were made or completed that quarter..but I'm fairly certain that the passes were 100% completed in the 4th for that game.
I'm no expert in scripting, but couldn't you take the info from the play by play roster? it would list the positions in more detail...
|
pabst
|
You're reading the numbers correctly. The problem is, that's passes on 4th down, not passes in the 4th quarter. 4th quarter passing is shown on the totals page.
| Jakemall wrote: | | I'm no expert in scripting, but couldn't you take the info from the play by play roster? it would list the positions in more detail... |
You're talking about the replay roster. That's exactly the information I need, but loading several dozen replays every time you look at a play-by-play creates too much network traffic. So, no can do. I'm taking the less network intensive way out ....
... the script has now been updated to load the box score whenever a play-by-play is loaded. So now, every players position is listed as it appears on the box score page (LB rather than ROLB/MLB/LOLB) and the player names are linked to the player homepages. Anyone who isn't linked will probably have some oddball character in their name which I'll have to work around.
I've also included the drive charts that had been requested a while back. I still have some issues with concatenating drives and incorrect start positions after turnovers, but it's getting there. With more time and more games, I'll track down the rest of the bugs.

I love this script - thanks so much for making it available. I found a small glitch on special teams (sorry if its a repeated bug post):
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=66204&mode=pbp
On special teams the kicker "Kicka Daball" is on the wrong team for that page.
Also, is there any way of including pass deflections on the defense page and the QB/WR tables? Deflections are typically on target passes and would tell a lot about the QB accuracy.
|
pabst
|
Because the kickoff was fumbled and the kicking team recovered, the play by play doesn't list a change of possession which is why he ends up on the wrong team. Yet another pbp quirk I have to work around. I'll fix it in the next release. Gracias.

This script has been really quite useful. Thank you for putting it out there for us.
Couple more ideas:
Listing which WR was the intended target on defended passes and ints.
Listing the position that was tackled by the defensive players...either as list or a chart with %... If that's to vague, let me know.

The passes defensed part is included in the version I released today. Interceptions are still just listed as an attempt though.

To list the actual position is a bit of a pain because I don't know who plays where until after I'm done getting the game data. The position insertion code modifies the tables after they're already built. The current versions show whether the play was a run or pass so you should be able to get an idea where you're missing your tackles. I could probably add this if enough people really wanted it, but I'm not looking forward to it.

Which versions of Firefox & greasemonkey are you using? This script requires Firefox3. You can't auto update to it, you have to get it from the site manually.
What other scripts are you using? Other scripts operating on the page can mess things up. Try disabling every script, but this one.

Is the problem that it's not working at all or is it because the team names & player links are missing? The team names/player links is because of the rename link. I'm fixing it now.

YPT = yards allowed per tackle
stop = It's the defensive equivalent of the success rate stat. If a tackle by a defensive player prevents a successful run/pass, then it's considered a stop. If he causes a loss of yardage or does it on 3rd/4th down, he gets credit for a defeat as well.

Since it's being run from the team page, any script which runs on that page can potentially screw things up. None of these seem to be the culprit.
As usual, I can't duplicate the problem. Update your version of the script and see if there are any errors in the error console (CTRL-SHIFT-J). If the problem is still there, I need you to save a copy of a team page before and after you run the script. Zip it up and upload it to megaupload or somewhere else where I can download it.

Re: Away gamesHi,
I've found the culprit to be:
Overall Stat number on team page.
It's the only addon which stops all games being collated.
The error message in the console is pretty lengthy but is basically a series of unknown property messages like this:
Warning: Unknown property 'scrollbar-face-color'. Declaration dropped.
Source File: http://glbscripts.myfreeforum.org/sutra762.php#762
Line: 41
I guess having the team read Falkirk (+3) instead of just the name is an issue?
Thanks for the help

Those error messages aren't from the script, they're from this forum. You should clear the error log before you actually run the script.
Anyways, you must have a different version of that script than the one I downloaded. I can run both without a problem.

I just installed this script. Whenever I try to run it, it takes me to the login page. I've tried disabling all other scripts on the page but it didn't help. Any idea what the problem might be?

The script does not load the login page on its own, the site is automatically redirecting you there. I'm guessing it has something to do with the recent site security update and some obscure option in firefox. Some people have the problem, some people don't. I have yet to figure out exactly what causes it or how to fix it.
The only thing I can suggest is try uninstalling firefox, deleting all temporary files, cookies, profiles, etc, and reinstall. Warning: by doing this, you'll lose every saved password and every bookmark, and it may not work at all.

Game ScoutI downloaded Firefox 3.0.1 and the greasemonkey and have not had problems except game scout. It did not work in my team profile screen then I read that was being worked on. I then tried to use it in my matchup play by play screen and it does not work their either. It appears I am getting an error. Here is what it said when I hit the error console.
http://goallinebliz.com/pbr Game Scout: already downloaded this one: http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=110245&mode=pbp
http://goallinebliz.com/pbr Game Scout: start
http://goallinebliz.com/pbr Game Scout: You shouldn't see me, so I'm probably a bug: 'Turd Ferg pitch to'
Error: playText is undefined
Source File: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Sett...781%7D/components/greasemonkey.js
Line: 3402
These four lines showed up. Not sure what is going on. I cannot get this to work with any game. Here is the game I was attempting first.

Is there something I need to do to fix this? Thanks for your time.

Re: Game Scout
The first 2 lines just mean it doesn't need to do a page load and the stat compilation has started. Those are perfectly normal.
The third is very odd. It's complaining because the play description is incomplete. There's no running back or tackler listed for that play so your definitely missing some things. The fourth is probably related since playText is the variable which holds the play description. Does it give these same errors for every game you use it on?
On the team profile page: are you one of the ones who gets redirected to the login page while running the script? It should work on there otherwise if you have a recent version of the script.

Yes it happens on every game I try. Now I only tried my own games for my team. When I run the script from the team profile it does not run. It just says 0 of 0 at bottom and shows the game scout screens so I can click defense, special teams, etc but there is no data there just all zeros. I stay on team profile page however.

Are the start button and the checkboxes visible on the team page?
What other scripts are you using on the play-by-play page?
|

The Run Game Scout button is visible at bottom and yes I can see the checkboxes next to each game. As for what other scripts I am running from play-by-play I am not sure but here is list of all scripts I have. Now I did remove all of them and just put Game Scout back and still did not work. Here is scripts I have:
Watch Game Score; Overall stat number on team page; pbr highlight; pancakes; AddOppOverallInSpread; GLB replay graphics v 1.2.1; GLB player compare; GLB forum favorites; GLB player navigation; GLB team expiration; Highlight my players in play-by-play; GLB forum send PM link; Scroll GLB players; GLB Yac; Add GLB outbox; PM's in toolbar; Quick training editor add update; GLB outbox delete button; clear GLB offer default team; GLB inbox delete; Forum page links; Scouting report numbers; GLB team page forum link; GLB add PBP link to schedule; GLB PM's in toolbar II
Now that is quite a list and had other questions but game scout is biggest concern. Other issues are all those necessary or any of those duplications of other functions. I kind of went crazy just downloading stuff. Also for the team specific ones do I need to put my team page in place of default that came with script? I have so many questions (this stuff is new to me but I love it). Lets figure out game scout first LOL

This wont work for me. All values are messe dup or something. It looks nothing like the screen shot on the first page. I dont know how to make screen shots, but it has nothing under the name/attempts/yards etc.
For team rushing it say (0,0) (1,0), (2,0) (3,0), (4,0)
This holds true for every stat included in the script.

Try uninstalling mozilla altogether and downloading the standalone 3.01....I had that issue as well when I installed 3.01 right over my old mozilla and didn't get the "run pb scout" button on the play by play. The boxes would still be able to be viewed but they had coordinates instead of stats. So try that...uninstall mozilla, dl and new fresh install...

"quite a list" is the understatement of the year
Remove these:
highlight my players in the play-by-play
overall stat number on team page
Then, it should work. That highlight script inserts html into the play-by-play description which should make the script fail on any pbp that contains one of your players. It's redundant anyway since pbr highlight will highlight your players in a way that works with the script.
The overall stat number script prevents it from grabbing the teams for some reason. Trying to figure out why at the moment.

Make sure you are using firefox 3. Clicking help/about mozilla firefox will show you the version number. Firefox 2 will not auto-update to firefox 3. You have to do it manually.
If the version is correct, open firefox's error console (CTRL-SHIFT-J). Browse to a play-by-play and clear the error console. Reload the page and then run the script. Tell me what errors get left behind and can I find out what's going on.

I think I figured out your problem... You first need to hit the "Run Game Scout" button. This is listed immediated above the tabs
"0 of 0
Total, Rushing, Passing"

Any chance you could add TD's to the Rushing and Passing player summaries? and perhaps the distances of made/missed FGs to the kicking?

I removed it at some point because Bort & company hardcoded the size of the page and the tables were running off the sides. I can add it back in I guess. You'll have to wait a bit though as I'm busy with something else at the moment.

I'm working on another script that allows you to filter the play by plays by type/result/down/whatever. When it's done, you'll be able to see the field goals very easily.

Gotcha. When I saw that script, the first thing I thought was, "I'd really love to see situational results."
At any rate, I'm a Java developer. I've ventured into javascript a few times, and rarely enjoy it, but I'd be willing to do it again if it helped improve this script, which is easily the best available when it comes to GLB greasemonkey scripts.

I'm the poor sap who's usually charting the Falcons. Early thoughts on a team I never payed much attention to before: John Abraham is a beast. Matt Ryan is legit. Next year will be big.

I get to see Abraham get triple teamed by the Saints offensive line twice a year so I already know what a pain in the ass he is. As for Matt Ryan, I haven't seen him yet, but when I do he'll be playing against the Saints defensive backs. So, needless to say, he's gonna look great
The filter script is here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/33496
Today's version of scout should now ignore any filtered out plays. It doesn't run off the team pages yet, so play-by-play pages only.

It didn't occur to me to use them in conjunction. Makes perfect sense that it would work, though. Thanks for the tip.

As an aside, the current incarnation of game scout breaks down rushing plays by success. Breaks down passing success by downs and by side of the field, and shows passing totals for distance.
But offensive AI doesn't allow you to modify your passing plays based on side of the field, only by distance. So what would be really useful is a breakdown of passing success by distance (short, medium, long).

The problem is there's no way for me to tell when a pass was thrown short/medium/long. I can only tell if it was completed. And even then, I can't tell if it was a 40 yard pass with the receiver being tackled immediately, or a 2 yard pass with the receiver earning an extra 38 yards on his own. They're both 40 yard gains to me despite being very different passes. For network traffic reasons, I'm limited to the information available in the play-by-play. Until the play-by-play is expanded, there isn't much I can do.

Hi Pabst,
First, thank you so much for all your hard work.
My question concerns the Game Scout stats. I am just unclear on some of the defensive abbreviations.
1) what is YPT for defenders
2) what is stop/defeat for run defenders
Thanks in advance for your help!
|
pabst
|
YPT = yards allowed per tackle
stop = It's the defensive equivalent of the success rate stat. If a tackle by a defensive player prevents a successful run/pass, then it's considered a stop. If he causes a loss of yardage or does it on 3rd/4th down, he gets credit for a defeat as well.

Looks like the ones without the fielding player listed aren't registering the yardage correctly (a new change to the play-by-play?). I'll fix it tomorrow.
